Slotting between a vanishing Daewoo legacy and the arrivals of the global Chevrolet Cruze, the Nubira badge quietly transitioned from Korean roots to Chevy sheet metal and represented one of the first joint-ventures that would reshape GM’s compact line-up.
Background
The Nubira name first appeared on a 1997 Daewoo compact; when Daewoo became part of the GM family, Chevrolet retained the model for select emerging markets from roughly 2002 until production wound down ahead of the 2009 Cruze launch. Same inner structure, new bow-tie logo—no official U.S. release.
Design & Dimensions
Reworked fascias, headlamps and badging distinguished the Chevrolet-branded car from its earlier Daewoo twin, while the interior gained Chevy-family switchgear. External footprint stayed compact at 4,500 mm length and a modest 1,725 mm width, making it an easy fit for crowded city streets.
Legacy
With the Cruze taking over worldwide, the Nubira quietly bowed out—yet it served as the bridge model that proved GM could transplant a Korean platform into the Chevy catalog and still find buyers, influencing later budget compacts across Latin America and Eastern Europe.
