Chevrolet rolled out the first-generation Chevelle in 1964 on GM’s new A-body architecture, slotting between the compact Chevy II/Nova and full-size Impala. Three generations followed until production ended with the 1977 models, after which the Chevelle nameplate was retired and the Malibu assumed its market position.
Body Styles & Variants
The line-up offered coupes, sedans, convertibles, and station wagons across its lifespan. Performance-minded buyers could opt for the Super Sport (SS) packages from 1964 to 1973, while the Laguna series served as a luxury-sport trim from 1973 through 1976.
