For the fast-growing urban EV segment, Changan has turned to the Lumin—a diminutive, battery-powered city car designed to squeeze maximum range and practicality into a supermini footprint.
Design
The Lumin’s upright two-box silhouette places it firmly in the kei car aesthetic that dominates Asian metropolises, yet Changan adds soft-edged panels and two-tone paint to lift the visual sophistication above basic commuter fare. Inside, a single TFT cluster handles instrumentation while rotating-dial drive controls and a stubby dash shrink interior volume to a minimum, making the most of the car’s 2.3-m wheelbase.
Performance
As an electric city car, the Lumin sacrifices outright power for economy and maneuverability. Exact figures remain scarce, but industry filings suggest battery options stretching from 12.9 kWh to over 27 kWh. Even the smallest pack promises 150–200 km of NEDC range—enough for a week of stop-and-go driving—while topping up from a 3.3 kW wall box in under six hours.
Market placement
Released without a numbered model year, the Lumin quietly appeared in Chinese dealerships as an affordable alternative to Wuling’s Hongguang Mini EV. Positioned beneath Changan’s own Eado EV and BenBen EV, this micro-car targets first-time drivers, car-sharing fleets and price-sensitive buyers who want zero-emission commuting without straying above the ¥60,000 mark.
