Between 2019 and the present day, Changan Automobile added a sleek fastback twist to the mid-size SUV class with the CS85 Coupe, giving China its first mass-produced lift-back SUV.
Design
The CS85 packages a 4,720 mm body onto a 2,705 mm wheelbase. Its fastback roofline drops 1,865 mm into frameless rear glass, while the overall width of 1,845 mm keeps proportions closer to a wagon than a chunky crossover.
Body & Weight
Steel-intensive construction and a five-seat layout account for a 1,730 kg curb weight. Roof rails are deleted to preserve the smooth arc, and the rear hatch opens high to access a flat floor once the seat-backs fold.
Market Position
Launched in 2019 for the Chinese market, the CS85 Coupe sits above the CS75 but below the CS95 in Changan’s SUV ladder. Available solely with 2.0-litre turbo or mild-hybrid 1.5-litre engines, it remains a domestic-market model with no official export program.
