Positioned between the CS35 and the larger CS75, the Changan CS55 is a compact SUV that filled a critical gap in the Chinese automaker’s lineup and became one of its top-selling global nameplates.
Position in the lineup
Slotting above the sub-compact CS35 and just below the mid-size CS75, the CS55 widened Changan’s SUV portfolio in the fast-growing Chinese market. This three-tier strategy gave buyers an incremental step up in space and equipment without leaving the brand.
Design identity
Compared with earlier Changan SUVs, the CS55 debuted a bolder front fascia with slimmer LED headlamps, a hexagonal grille, and pronounced wheel-arch cladding. Inside, soft-touch plastics, a floating touchscreen, and available red stitching place it several notches above entry-level offerings.
Global footprint
Following strong domestic sales, Changan began exports to the Middle East, South America, and Eastern Europe, often rebranding the CS55 to meet local naming conventions and emissions norms. Evidence of its reach is visible in regional brochures and crash-test recordings from Latin NCAP.
