Launched in 2023, the Avatr 07 is a mid-size electric crossover from Avatr Technology—the Changan-CATL joint venture—and it introduces the brand’s Kunlun range-extender system built around CATL’s Freevoy hybrid-chemistry cells.
Joint-Venture Origins
The 07 is Avatr’s third model since the brand was established in 2018 as a partnership between Changan Automobile and battery giant CATL. Changan supplies vehicle engineering and production capacity, while CATL contributes next-generation Freevoy lithium-ion packs and the new Kunlun range-extender architecture.
Design & Dimensions
With a footprint of 4.83 × 1.99 × 1.62 m, the 07 occupies the heart of the mid-size SUV segment. The proportions—short overhangs, wide stance and lift-back roofline—are shared with Avatr’s earlier 11 and 12, giving the line-up visual coherence while adding five usable seats.
Kunlun Range-Extender & Freevoy Battery
For the first time in any production car, the Kunlun system uses CATL’s Freevoy cells in a hybrid-chemistry layout. The setup provides both full EV driving range and a compact gasoline range extender for occasional longer trips, eliminating pure-range anxiety without enlarging the battery pack.
