Unveiled as Cadillac’s entry point to the brand’s electric SUV family, the Optiq is a compact luxury crossover built and sold first in China, then rolled out to North America and Europe within two years. Production by SAIC-GM positions it as a global EV volume play for General Motors’ premium brand.
Launch Timeline
Orders opened in late 2023 for the Chinese market through SAIC-GM’s joint-venture plants. Cadillac followed with North American deliveries starting early 2025 and scheduled European sales for the second half of 2025, giving the model a rapid 24-month worldwide rollout.
Manufacturing & Markets
Production is handled exclusively in China by SAIC-GM, supporting domestic sales first and then export logistics to North America and Europe. This marks one of the first Cadillac EVs built outside the United States to penetrate GM’s core luxury markets on both sides of the Atlantic.
Market Positioning
Slotting below the larger Lyriq and Escalade IQ, the Optiq is the smallest and most attainable battery-electric SUV offered by the brand. As a compact crossover it competes with similarly sized premium EVs while bringing Cadillac’s latest design language and battery technology down-market.
