Cadillac CTS-V

Slotted above the regular CTS sedan, the Cadillac CTS-V turned Cadillac's mid-size luxury platform into a fire-breathing performance machine produced between 2004 and 2019.
Purpose and Positioning
From the outset, the CTS-V was engineered to compete directly with European sport-sedan benchmarks like the BMW M5 and Mercedes-AMG E55. Rather than a separate model line, Cadillac took its CTS and added substantially more power, stiffer suspension, larger brakes, and subtle exterior cues to create the official high-performance variant of the standard CTS.
Generations at a Glance
The CTS-V spanned all three generations of the CTS. The first wave (2004–2007) paired the platform with a 5.7-liter LS6 V8. The second (2009–2014) grew in size and adopted a supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V8 for sedan and coupe body styles. The final iteration (2016–2019) shed the coupe and wagon variants but introduced a 640-horsepower supercharged LT4 V8, borrowed from the Corvette Z06, making the CTS-V one of GM’s most powerful sedans of all time.
Legacy
The CTS-V is widely cited as the moment Cadillac signaled serious global performance ambitions. Lapping the Nürburgring in under eight minutes and setting sedan lap records at several American tracks, it reframed Cadillac’s image from plush American grand-tourer to legitimate sports-sedan contender.
