Cadillac swapped letters and numbers again, retiring the ATS after seven years and launching the CT4 to anchor its compact-sedan portfolio beginning in 2019.
Model lineage
Positioned one rung below the mid-size CT5, the CT4 resumes the entry-luxury role that the ATS performed since 2012. Cadillac announced the sport-oriented CT4-V first on May 30, 2019, using the performance variant to preview the new face; the regular CT4 sedan completed its debut four months later.
Design positioning
Slotting into the compact segment places the CT4 alongside European and Japanese rivals whose footprint is driven by global market demand. Cadillac’s move to a simplified CT-series naming convention reflects a broader push to unify its sedan hierarchy under a single alphanumeric scheme.
