Cadillac Ciel

As the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance crowd parted, Cadillac wheeled out the Ciel—a hybrid-electric four-seat convertible previewing its next chapter of American luxury. This single show car dropped jaws, sparked forums, and directly inspired the later Elmiraj concept.
Design
Stretching 5,170 mm nose-to-tail on a 3,200 mm wheelbase—longer than any production Cadillac of its day—the Ciel adopts a relaxed cab-rear layout for classic grand-touring proportions. A low windshield and rumpled sail panels flow into a sweeping rear deck, while brushed-aluminum accents, wood interior details, and a soft-top outline set the tone for modern open-air American opulence.
Engineering
Under the hood sits a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter direct-injection V6 rated at 425 hp, paired with Cadillac’s hybrid system and lithium-ion batteries. The result is a concept that explores both effortless torque and partial electrification—technology that later filtered into Cadillac’s PHEV programs.
Legacy
The Ciel never reached production, yet its length, hybrid V6 architecture, and broad-shouldered surfacing became the thematic blueprint for the 2013 Cadillac Elmiraj coupe concept and, eventually, cues seen on today’s flagship sedans. More than a stylistic flight of fancy, it re-set consumer expectations for what a full-size American convertible could still be.
