BYD expanded the Song family in 2024 with the Song L DM-i, a plug-in hybrid mid-size crossover that slots neatly between the smaller Song Pro and the range-topping Tang DM-i within the Dynasty Series lineup.
Positioning within the Dynasty Series
Sold exclusively through BYD’s Dynasty Network dealerships, the Song L DM-i is the middle child of the Song-branded SUVs. It mirrors the brand’s strategy of organizing hybrids and EVs into clear size classes, letting buyers step up from the Song Pro without committing to the full-size Tang DM-i.
Powertrain layout
Carrying the DM-i badge, the Song L runs BYD’s dedicated plug-in hybrid system that prioritises electric-first driving with a petrol range extender, a formula already proven in other BYD DM-i models. While exact battery capacity and combined power figures haven’t yet been published, the system is expected to match the evolution seen in BYD’s latest Blade-battery hybrids.
