Design
With tidy dimensions of 4290 mm long, 1770 mm wide, and 1570 mm high, the Dolphin slots betweenBYD’s Seagull and Seal siblings while wearing the Ocean Series’ flowing surf-inspired body lines. Originated in Shenzhen, the platform prioritizes a high roof and short overhangs for maximum cabin space within subcompact footprint.
Market Position & Variants
Introduced for China in 2021, the Dolphin soon rolled out in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, becoming the first right-hand-drive BYD hatchback. Buyers choose between 30 kWh or 44.9 kWh Blade battery packs, with the larger pack targeting a WLTP range around 340 km.
Legacy so Far
Within three years the Dolphin has pushed total BYD passenger EV exports past the one-million unit mark and topped monthly EV sales charts in Thailand and Australia. It set a precedent for affordable, Chinese-designed small EVs competing directly with the Volkswagen ID.3 and MG4 abroad.
