Launched in 2024, the BYD Sealion 07 EV (marketed in some regions simply as BYD Sealion 7) is BYD Auto’s first entry under the new Sealion sub-brand within its Ocean Series. This battery-electric mid-size crossover stakes out the same footprint as mainstream D-segment SUVs while packaging the brand’s latest-generation EV architecture.
Design and Dimensions
The Sealion 07 measures 4 830 mm long, 1 925 mm wide and 1 620 mm tall, giving it proportions close to a traditional five-seat SUV. The clean surfacing, flush door handles and full-width light bar mark it as part of BYD’s Ocean Series aesthetic, intended to evoke a more fluid, wave-inspired look than the angular designs of the Dynasty lineup.
First of the Sealion Line
BYD positions the Sealion 07 as the founding model of its Sealion family of electric SUVs. As the inaugural vehicle, it carries the “07” suffix in the Chinese market to denote its placement, but the simplified “Sealion 7” badge is used elsewhere. The existence of this model signals BYD’s intent to spin off dedicated EV SUV nameplates alongside its existing Dynasty and Ocean-Series cars.
2024 Market Entry
Deliveries began in the first quarter of 2024, initially focused on China before left-hand-drive export markets. The rollout marks the first time BYD has offered a mid-size crossover built from the ground up as a battery-electric vehicle, eschewing any petrol hybrid variant that characterized earlier BYD SUV lines.
