Slotting above the Dolphin, the BYD Seal is the Chinese marque’s first battery-electric compact executive sedan and the second entry in their Ocean Series portfolio, arriving on BYD’s latest e-Platform 3.0.
Design & Positioning
As a mid-size sedan, the Seal targets Europe’s premium compact-executive class with clean surfacing and coupe-like proportions. At 4800 mm long, 1875 mm wide and 1460 mm tall it sits squarely against the Tesla Model 3 and BMW 3-Series EV set, yet hides an 800-volt architecture normally reserved for halo-priced models.
Chassis & Electrics
Built on BYD’s dedicated e-Platform 3.0, the Seal employs Cell-to-Chassis battery integration for lower weight and higher rigidity. The 800-volt electrical system shortens DC fast-charge stops and enables heavier power electronics, pushing the platform toward genuine long-distance usability without battery-swapping.
Name & Lineup
The "Ocean Series" naming reflects a marine-life theme already established by the smaller Dolphin hatchback. No predecessor exists, and BYD has not yet publicised a direct successor; instead, software and battery updates are expected to iterate within the current generation.
