History and Launch
The Atto 2 debuted in February 2024 as the BYD Yuan Up in its home market of China before shifting to its export nameplate. Production started at BYD’s Chinese plants the following month, making the model one of the quickest from reveal to rollout in the brand’s recent history and underscoring BYD’s ambition to scale EV volumes rapidly.
Design and Dimensions
At 4 310 mm long, 1 830 mm wide and 1 675 mm tall on a tight wheelbase, the Atto 2 fits squarely in the subcompact crossover class. Angular surfacing and a fast back give it a taut, urban stance, while the modest 1 430 kg curb weight helps range and agility. Cargo space and interior layout are optimized around BYD’s Blade Battery pack located beneath the floor.
Market Position
Positioned as the entry EV in BYD’s international “Atto” series (after the Atto 3/Song Plus), the Atto 2 targets price-sensitive buyers eyeing compact SUVs such as the Hyundai Kona Electric or MG ZS EV. Its arrival signals BYD’s intent to undercut rivals with competitive pricing made possible by vertical integration of battery and motor hardware.
