BYD Atto 3 is the export name given to the BYD Yuan Plus, a battery-electric compact crossover that reached Chinese showrooms in February 2022 and now serves as BYD Auto’s first global passenger-car EV.
Name and Global Debut
In mainland China and Latin America the car is sold as BYD Yuan Plus, drawing its title from the ancient Yuan dynasty. Abroad, it was rebranded Atto 3 to set up a fresh EV identity for BYD outside its domestic market, reaching Australia, Europe and other regions within months of its February 2022 launch.
Design & Dimensions
The C-segment crossover measures 4455 mm long, 1875 mm wide and 1615 mm tall, proportions that place it solidly among compact SUVs such as the VW ID.4 and Toyota bZ4X while retaining a 5-seat, 2-row layout.
Market Strategy
Positioned as BYD’s spearhead for international passenger EV sales, the Atto 3 undercuts direct rivals on price in multiple markets. In Australia it opened order books ahead of Tesla Model Y deliveries, while European pricing sits below the comparable VW Group cousins.
Legacy
Because it is BYD’s first consumer EV exported to many regions, the Atto 3 is establishing the brand’s global service, charging-network and residual-value reputation well before higher-segment models arrive.
