Between 1995 and 2010, the Bentley Azure delivered open-top luxury on a scale seldom matched: a four-seater convertible grand tourer forged in Britain’s Crewe workshops.
History
Introduced in 1995 on the long-running Continental R platform, the Azure carried the torch once held by the Rolls-Royce Corniche. Production paused after 2003; when it resumed in 2006, the model had switched to the newer Arnage platform and brought with it a comprehensively updated powertrain, running until final examples left the line in 2010.
Design & Dimensions
At 5 410 mm long, 1 900 mm wide, and 1 492 mm tall, the Azure parked like a chauffeur-grade saloon yet wore a sweeping fabric roof that folded neatly into the rear deck. The cabin provided four proper seats wrapped in hides and wood veneers that emphasized opulence over the sporting brief.
Mechanical Package
Under the bonnet lived Bentley’s turbocharged pushrod V8, its specification evolving across the two generations. Regardless of year, the Azure tipped the scales at roughly 2 695 kg, with power prioritized for effortless torque rather than outright agility—an approach true to its grand-touring mission.
Generations & Legacy
The first-series Azure (1995-2003) cemented Bentley’s return to convertible luxury, while the 2006-2010 iteration refined the blend with sharper electronics and emissions upgrades. Today, both generations remain the only mass-produced dropheads to carry the marque’s wings between the Corniche and the modern Continental GTC.
