Design & Positioning
Based on Audi’s smallest offering, length is just 3 975 mm—about the footprint of the original Golf GTI—yet it packs Quattro all-wheel drive and a stepped powertrain into the diminutive body, giving it the space efficiency of a luxury city car paired with sports-hatch urgency.
Performance Credentials
With a quoted top speed of 250 km/h, the S1 matches the limit set for many larger hot sedans of its day. The permanent all-wheel-drive system, compact turbocharged motor, and relatively light 1.2-ton-plus footprint produce launch-like acceleration that belies the car’s supermini label.
Generations and Availability
Introduced part-way through the first-generation A1 lifecycle from 2010-2018, the S1 adopted the three-door and later five-door Sportback silhouette until the switch to the second-generation A1 in 2019 ended hot-variant production.
Legacy
It remains one of the rare Quattro-equipped superminis, bridging the gap between city hatch and junior performance coupe, and is remembered as the last three-door halo variant before Audi concentrated on larger, more crossover-oriented S models.
