Audi unveiled the RSQ in 2005 as a futuristic concept car created specifically for the science-fiction film I, Robot, giving moviegoers the first look at the brand's styling language two model generations ahead of production.
Design
The RSQ adopted the inverted-bowl architecture previewed by the earlier Audi Le Mans quattro concept, featuring twin scissor doors and a continuous glass roof. Reflective silver paint and distinctive turbine-spoke wheels created a technologic aesthetic that hinted at the later Audi R8 design vocabulary.
Vehicle Integration
To fit into the 2035 Chicago depicted in the film, the RSQ carried no visible side mirrors, used spherical wheels that rolled on magnetic fields, and swapped traditional mirrors for slim camera pods. Audi supplied interior gauges re-skinned with futuristic graphics and ambient lighting, making the concept look production-ready on screen.
Cultural Impact
After I, Robot’s release, the RSQ toured international auto shows as part of Audi’s exhibit, reinforcing the brand’s innovation credentials. The concept’s clean surfacing and C-shaped daytime-running light motif directly influenced later production Audis, while the model itself became a fixture in video games and die-cast collections.
