Slotting below the Q3, the Audi Q2 arrived at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show as the brand’s first subcompact crossover and still the entry-level SUV in its global line-up.
History & Launch
Audi publicly debuted the Q2 on 1 March 2016 at the Geneva Motor Show. Production kicked off the same year in Ingolstadt, with additional assembly lines soon established by FAW-Volkswagen in Foshan, China, and SOVAC-Volkswagen in Relizane, Algeria, widening the car’s global reach.
Platform & Engineering
Under its sleek body sits the Volkswagen Group MQB A1 platform—the same architecture used by the Mk7 Golf. This modular toolkit enables short overhangs and a relatively low 1 205 kg kerb weight, rare among small SUVs.
Dimensions
At 4 191 mm long, 1 794 mm wide and 1 508 mm tall, the Q2 stays distinctly smaller than compact luxury crossovers. The footprint is pitched squarely at urban drivers who want elevated seating without the bulk.
Manufacturing Footprint
Ice-white Ingolstadt sheet-metal meets precision welding robots before Q2s roll off the German line. Thousands more are hammered together each year in Foshan for Asian markets and in Relizane for North Africa, making the crossover one of Audi’s most geographically distributed production programs.
