Produced from 1981 to 1988, the Volkswagen Passat B2 was the second generation of Volkswagen's Passat model, based on the Audi 80 platform. It was slightly longer than its predecessor, the Passat B1. The Passat B2 was manufactured not only in Germany but also in several other countries.
History
The Volkswagen Passat B2 was launched in 1981, following the Audi 80 B2 which had been introduced in 1978. Its production continued until 1988 when it was succeeded by the Passat B3.
Design and Variants
The Passat B2 was available in various body styles and was sold under different names in various markets. In Brazil and the United States, the Santana station wagon was sold as the Quantum. The Passat saloon and estate were also produced in South Africa until 1987.
Production
The Passat B2 was manufactured in multiple countries including China, Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina, apart from Germany. Production in China continued until January 2013, long after it had ended in other countries.
