It was part of Peugeot's early lineup, positioning between the Peugeot Type 4 and Peugeot Type 6. Despite its innovations, it struggled against larger models.
History
The Peugeot Type 5 was manufactured from 1893 to 1896, succeeding the Peugeot Type 4. It was a period of experimentation for Peugeot, with the company trying to optimize its early automobile designs. A total of 14 Type 5 cars were sold during its production run.
Design and Performance
Mechanically, the Peugeot Type 5 retained much from the Peugeot Type 3, including its engine and most mechanical parts. However, it featured a more compact design, measuring 2150mm in length, 1300mm in width, and weighing 400kg. This lighter build allowed it to make more effective use of its 2 horsepower engine.
Legacy
Despite its streamlined design and mechanical heritage, the Peugeot Type 5 did not fare well against larger Peugeot models. Its relatively poor sales performance likely influenced the development of subsequent models, such as the Peugeot Type 6, which succeeded it.
