Opel Rekord E

Launched in August 1977, the Opel Rekord E was a large family car produced by Opel, replacing the Rekord D with new bodywork while retaining key dimensions and engines from its predecessor.
History
The Opel Rekord E succeeded the Rekord D on Opel's Rüsselsheim production lines following the summer vacation plant shut-down in August 1977. It shared its wheelbase with its predecessor and inherited most of its engines.
Design
Although the Rekord E retained the wheelbase of the Rekord D, it featured completely new bodies. The dimensions included a width of 1725mm and a height of 1470mm. The corresponding Opel Commodore C was essentially identical to the Rekord E, but was fitted with 6-cylinder engines.
Generations
The Opel Rekord E was part of the Rekord series, following the Rekord D and preceding the Opel Omega A, which would eventually succeed it.
