Conceived by Yutaka Katayama and designed by Yoshihiko Matsuo's team, the Nissan S30 is a 2-seat sports car and 2+2 GT car that was produced from 1969 to 1978. Initially sold as the Datsun 240Z, 260Z, and 280Z outside Japan, it marked the beginning of Nissan's Z series. The S30 was a significant model for Nissan, both in its home market and internationally.
History
The Nissan S30 was the brainchild of Yutaka Katayama, then President of Nissan Motor Corporation U.S.A., and was designed by a team under Yoshihiko Matsuo, head of Nissan's Sports Car Styling Studio. It succeeded the Datsun Sports and was later replaced by the Nissan S130.
Design and Variants
Sold in Japan as the Nissan Fairlady Z, the S30 was exported under the Datsun brand as the 240Z, 260Z, and 280Z. These variations were part of Nissan's strategy to penetrate different markets with a unified product line.
Legacy
