History
Holden Australia rolled out the FC series on 6 May 1958, replacing the FE range with a modest yet clear progression. Built only until 1960, it bridged the gap between the first post-war Holden generation and the thoroughly revised FB that followed.
Design
Distinctly Australian in engineering, the FC nevertheless copied North American style cues taken straight from the 1955 Chevrolet. A revised grille, larger glass areas and smoother sheet-metal made it look wider and lower, even though its 1 699 mm width and 1 549 mm height were almost unchanged.
Legacy
In just two years the FC quietly solidified Holden’s market grip, becoming a familiar sight on suburban driveways and rural roads. By refining, rather than reinventing the FE recipe, it extended the life of the platform and kept sales steady before the full redesign arrived.
