From the mid-1990s, the Daewoo Nexia compact sedan became General Motors’ first clean-sheet effort for South Korea after absorbing the Daewoo marque, directly replacing the aging Daewoo Racer and slotting beneath the upcoming Lanos.
Background and Nameplate
Introduced around 1994 and sold primarily in its home market, the Nexia took over from the Daek-done-with Daewoo Racer, which itself was a reworked 1980s Opel Kadett. The car served as an interim model during GM’s deep reorganization of Daewoo’s product range, bridging the gap before the more modern Lanos arrived at the end of the decade.

Built on a compact front-wheel-drive platform, the Nexia spanned 1,662 mm across and stood just 1,393 mm high—typical sedan proportions for city use yet roomy enough for four adults. These tight exterior measurements helped navigate dense urban streets while keeping manufacturing and running costs low.
