History
Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Italdesign, the Lacetti premiered in 2002 as a replacement for the Daewoo Nubira. It was built in South Korea by GM Daewoo and quickly exported worldwide, appearing as the Chevrolet Optra in Canada, the Suzuki Forenza in the United States and the Holden Viva in Australia.
Design & Dimensions
Giugiaro’s crisp lines defined the early-2000s Daewoo family look. The four-door saloon measures 4 520 mm long, 1 725 mm wide and 1 445 mm tall—compact yet practical for its era.
Global Spread
GM leveraged the Lacetti platform across far-flung markets, badging it for specific regions to fill entry-compact segments and meet local regulatory requirements. The same underpinnings spawned hatch and estate variants, broadening its appeal and extending production into the Cruze generation.
