Positioned as the unconventional successor to the Fiat Multipla, the Fiat 500L was a five-door mini-MPV sold worldwide from 2012 through 2022 and built in Serbia.
Design & Dimensions
Fiat packaged the 500L’s tall roof into city-friendly footprints: 4,147 mm long, 1,784 mm wide and 1,660 mm high. The boxy silhouette echoed the original 500’s styling cues but scaled up to deliver genuine MPV practicality across two initial rows with five seats.
Generations & Variants
Launched in 2012 on Fiat’s Small Wide platform, the 500L gained a stretched sibling late in 2013: the 500L Living (also called 500L Wagon), adding a third row to seat seven. A 2017 facelift refreshed bumpers, lighting and the infotainment suite, keeping the model competitive through its final years.
Production & Lifecycle
Serbian assembly lines delivered the half-millionth 500L by early 2018. North American sales ended after the 2020 model year, with global production winding down entirely in 2022, closing a decade-long run.
Market Position
Designed to replace the quirky Fiat Multipla, the 500L aimed at buyers who wanted a city-sized footprint with maximum interior volume. While never topping sales charts, it carved out a niche for Fiat in the mini-MPV segment.
