Autobianchi Bianchina

Debuting on 16 September 1957 at Milan’s Museum of Science and Technology, the Autobianchi Bianchina turned the already tiny Fiat 500 into a fashion-forward microcar and paved the way for the later A112.
Origins & Overview
Autobianchi—a joint venture of Bianchi, Pirelli and Fiat—took the proven Fiat 500 platform and wrapped it in new bodywork to create the Bianchina. First shown to the public in Milan on 16 September 1957, the model was marketed as a more upscale city car and offered in five distinct body styles: the Berlina (a two-door saloon), open-top Cabriolet, semi-convertible Trasformabile, glass-roof Panoramica and the utilitarian Furgoncino van.
Design Variants
Despite its 1 340 mm width, the Bianchina pulled off a diverse range of silhouettes. The Cabriolet sported a minimalist soft-top for seaside cruising, while the panoramic glass roof of the Panoramica imparted an airy feel rare in cars of this size. Cargo duties fell to the Furgoncino, a compact panel van built on the same footprint.
Legacy
Positioned above the standard Fiat 500, the Bianchina popularized the idea that very small cars could also be stylish and customizable. Its mini-multirole lineup foreshadowed the later Autobianchi A112, and remains a favorite among collectors of Italian microcars from the economic-boom era.
