Introduced in August 1974, the Toyota Corolla E30 was the third generation of Toyota's popular Corolla line, marking significant growth for the brand in the US during the fuel crisis. The E30 generation was produced until July 1981. It was notable for being one of the longest-lived generations.
History
The Corolla E30/E50 was built from August 1974 to July 1981, succeeding the E20 generation and preceding the E70. During its production run, it experienced Toyota's greatest growth in the United States due to the fuel crisis.
Design and Variants
The E30 generation included various models such as the Corolla, Sprinter, and the sporty Levin and Trueno models. There was also a redesigned-body version built by Daihatsu, known as the Daihatsu Charmant. The Levin models in Japan received a fuel injection upgrade in January 1977.
Legacy
The Corolla E30 generation was one of the longest-lived, possibly due to the worldwide recession in the 1970s. It played a significant role in Toyota's expansion in the US market during a period of economic challenge.
