Introduced in January 1986, the Vauxhall Belmont was a saloon car version of the Opel Kadett E, sold in Great Britain until September 1991. As a rebadged Opel model, it stood out for its spacious boot.
History
The Vauxhall Belmont was launched in January 1986, based on the Opel Kadett E saloon introduced a few months earlier in September 1985. It succeeded the Vauxhall Astra Mark 1 and was eventually replaced by the Vauxhall Astra Mark 3 in September 1991.
Design
The Belmont was essentially a rebadged Opel Kadett E saloon, with the same dimensions: 4230mm in length, 1663mm in width, and 1400mm in height. While other body styles of the Kadett E were sold in the UK as the Vauxhall Astra, the Belmont saloon offered a significantly larger boot than its rivals.
Legacy
The Vauxhall Belmont was praised for its spacious boot, a feature that set it apart from other cars in its class at the time. Its discontinuation in 1991 marked the end of a distinct saloon offering from Vauxhall in this segment.
