Launched in 2003, the Opel Signum was a mid-size executive hatchback that deviated from traditional designs, derived from the Opel Vectra and based on the long wheelbase version of the GM Epsilon platform. It was marketed primarily in Europe until its discontinuation in 2008. The Signum was also rebadged as the Vauxhall Signum in the United Kingdom.
Design and Engineering
The Opel Signum used the long wheelbase version of the GM Epsilon platform, also utilized by the Opel Vectra Caravan. Its dimensions included a width of 1798mm and a height of 1466mm, distinguishing it from other models in its class.
Generations and Variants
The Opel Signum was manufactured over a single generation from 2003 to 2008. It was closely related to the Opel Vectra, from which it was derived. In the United Kingdom, the Signum was marketed as the Vauxhall Signum, reflecting Opel's branding strategy in different markets.
Legacy
The Opel Signum was eventually succeeded by the Opel Insignia, marking the end of its production run. Its place in the market was as a front-wheel drive, five-passenger executive hatchback, filling a niche between traditional sedans and wagons.
