The Oldsmobile Six was a top-level sedan produced by GM's Oldsmobile Division, manufactured in Lansing, Michigan, and available from 1913 to 1921 with a brief hiatus. It was a significant model that competed with the Chevrolet Series C Classic Six and shared technology with other GM brands. The Oldsmobile Six was eventually replaced by the Oldsmobile Model 30 in 1927.
History
The Oldsmobile Six was first introduced as the Model 53, 54, and 55 from 1913 to 1915. After a brief cancellation, it reappeared as the Model 37, 37A, and 37B from 1917 to 1921. It was manufactured at Lansing Car Assembly in Lansing, Michigan, and was a top-level sedan alongside the Oldsmobile Series 40.
Design and Engineering
The Oldsmobile Six used a T-head engine for the first two years after its reintroduction. It shared wheelbases with the Buick Six, indicating a level of technological sharing within GM. Various bodystyles for the Oldsmobile Six were supplied by Fisher Body of Detroit, MI.
Generations and Legacy
The Oldsmobile Six replaced the Series 28, also known as the 'Oldsmobile Autocrat', and was eventually replaced by the Oldsmobile Model 30 in 1927. It competed directly with the Chevrolet Series C Classic Six, a model from Chevrolet before it became a GM division in 1917. The technology from the Oldsmobile Six was also shared with GMC for commercial and industrial products.
