History
The Nissan Bassara was manufactured from November 1999 to June 2003. It was discontinued when Nissan restructured its Japanese dealership network, merging five sales chains into two and renaming Prince locations to Nissan Red Stage.
Design and Platform
The Bassara shared a platform with the Nissan Presage and Nissan R'nessa. It had dimensions of length 4795mm, width 1770mm, and height 1720mm, with a mass of 1600kg.
Market and Competitors
The Bassara competed with the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Gaia in the Japanese market. Its name is derived from the Sanskrit word 'Vajara', meaning 'the prize or object of desire that encourages someone to yield to temptation'.
Legacy
The Nissan Bassara was eventually succeeded by the Nissan Murano, marking a shift in Nissan's offerings in the MPV segment.
