Introduced in 2022 for the 2023 model year, the Mazda CX-50 is a compact crossover SUV designed for the North American and Chinese markets. As part of Mazda's expanding CX lineup, it slots below the larger CX-70 and coexists with the CX-5. The CX-50 shares its platform with the Mazda3 and CX-30.
Design and Platform
The Mazda CX-50 is built on the same transverse, front-wheel-drive platform as the fourth-generation Mazda3 and the CX-30. It measures 4719mm in length, 1920mm in width, and 1613mm in height, positioning it as a competitor in the compact crossover SUV segment.
Market Positioning
Sold alongside the slightly smaller CX-5, the CX-50 is aimed at a specific market niche within Mazda's existing lineup. Its larger counterpart, the CX-70, is based on a rear-wheel-drive platform, distinguishing it from the CX-50.
