Launched as the second model in Great Wall’s off-road-oriented Tank series, the Tank 500 is a seven-seat full-size luxury SUV that arrived on the heels of the rugged Tank 300. Sized like a Toyota Land Cruiser yet priced well below, it positions Great Wall to compete directly in Asia’s booming premium utility segment.
Design & Size
Stretching 4 878 mm long, 1 934 mm wide and standing 1 905 mm tall, the Tank 500 dwarfs most midsize SUVs but remains legally a passenger car. The blocky silhouette, high belt-line and imposing grille echo classic American full-sizers, while flush LED lighting and chrome trim speak to its up-market intent. Inside, three rows seat seven in a cabin trimmed with soft touch plastics, leather and twin 14.6-inch screens.
Market Position
Introduced right after the popular Tank 300, the Tank 500 widens the new Tank marque beyond pure retro 4x4s into family-centric luxury. Its pickup sibling, the Great Wall Shanhai Cannon, shares the same ladder frame, letting Great Wall spread development costs across two body styles and offering customers a consistent off-road hardware package.
