Great Wall Motor added an athletic twist to its staple H6 when it launched the Haval M6, a compact crossover that has served as the sport-styled companion to China’s best-selling SUV since 2017.
Origins and Positioning
Introduced in 2017 under the Haval sub-brand, the M6 rides on the exact same platform as the first-generation Haval H6. Rather than creating an entirely new vehicle, Great Wall elected to give its proven H6 architecture a sharper, more dynamic appearance aimed at younger urban buyers who wanted crossover practicality without the family-SUV look.
2021 M6 Plus Refresh
In 2021 Great Wall unveiled the second-generation Haval M6 Plus. Despite the generational label, the M6 Plus continues to use the original first-generation H6 underpinnings. Exterior styling was updated with a larger grille, slimmer headlights and a revised rear fascia, but the core structure and wheelbase remain unchanged to keep costs low.
Market Focus
Positioned slightly below the mainstream H6 in price, the M6 series targets value-conscious drivers in China’s lower-tier cities. By recycling the well-understood first-gen H6 platform, Great Wall can offer a competitive crossover at an aggressive price point while benefitting from minimal tooling changes.
