Haval H5

Spanning two distinct eras, the Haval H5 began life in June 2010 as Great Wall’s compact go-anywhere SUV and was resurrected in 2023 as a full-size, body-on-frame ute.
First Generation (2010–2020)
Launched in June 2010 as the Hover H5 and rebranded Haval H5 a year later, the original model married compact dimensions with dual-range 4WD. Buyers chose between turbo-diesel and gasoline four-cylinders, all routed through a traditional ladder frame built to cope with China’s rural roads.
2023 Reboot – Full-Size Return
Re-appearing in 2023, the nameplate shifted upmarket and physically grew to full-size SUV stature while retaining the body-on-frame blueprint. Great Wall now positions it as a ladder-frame workhorse alongside its growing unibody range, equipping it with rear-wheel-drive standard and selectable 4WD.
Engine & Drivetrain Choices
Across both generations, petrol and turbo-diesel engines have been offered, with manual or automatic gearboxes feeding either the rear axle or a part-time four-wheel-drive system activated at the twist of a console dial.
