Haval H4

Great Wall Motor’s Haval H4 was a compact crossover that occupied the price-sensitive middle ground between the smaller H2 and the larger H6 in Haval’s range. Produced from 2017 to 2020, the model aimed to attract younger Chinese buyers wanting SUV styling on a limited budget.
Production and Positioning
The H4 launched in 2017 as part of Haval’s rapid push into China’s booming compact-SUV segment. Slotting above the sub-compact H2 and below the long-running H6, the H4 targeted urban families with generous standard equipment and a choice of turbocharged four-cylinder engines. Production ended in 2020 without a direct successor, as Haval repositioned its portfolio around the Jolion and Big Dog product families.
Design and Size
Stretching just 4.41 metres in length but riding on a 2.66 m wheelbase, the H4 packed cabin space into a comparatively short footprint. Its 1 845 mm width and 1 695 mm height gave it a squat, sporty stance that echoed the larger H6 while offering reduced overhangs for easier urban parking.
Global Reach
Though engineered principally for China, the H4 was briefly exported to select markets in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Latin America, where it was sold alongside other Haval models under Great Wall’s expanding overseas strategy during 2018–2019.
