Launched by Italian automaker Fiat in Brazil, the 1983–1985 Fiat Oggi was a short-lived two-door sedan spun from the well-known Fiat 147 to counter emerging local four-door rivals.
Design & Engineering
Built on the proven underpinnings of the rear-engined Fiat 147, the Oggi added a smart two-door notchback roofline and elongated rear to stretch overall length to 3 970 mm. The result was a compact yet trunked sedan positioned between traditional two-box hatches and full-size family cars of the era.
Market Context & End
Fiat introduced the Oggi when Brazil’s market was shifting toward notch-back versions of hatchbacks like the Chevrolet Monza, Volkswagen Voyage, and later the Ford Escort. Production at Fiat’s Betim plant ran only from 1983 to 1985; the Oggi was quickly replaced by the larger Uno-based Prêmio, and its successor slot in the range was formally taken by the Fiat Duna.
Legacy
Despite its brief sales window, the Oggi is remembered as Fiat’s initial Brazilian toe-dip into the compact-sedan niche, paving the way for better-integrated models such as the Prêmio and Duna that followed.
