Fiat 130

Between 1969 and 1977, Fiat built a full-size flagship that stood apart from the rest of its range. The Fiat 130 saloon and coupé paired Italian styling with a rare-for-Fiat six-cylinder engine, aiming straight at Europe’s executive-sedan market.
Design & Variants
Fiat offered the 130 in two distinct forms: a four-door saloon and a two-door coupé. Both body styles sat on the same chassis but offered markedly different roof lines and interior ambience, giving buyers a choice between formal luxury and sporty flair within one model family.
Engineering Notes
The car was powered by a single overhead-cam V6 mounted longitudinally up front, delivering power to the rear wheels. With a kerb weight of 1 550 kg framed by an 1 803 mm width and 1 473 mm height, the 130 was engineered for relaxed autostrada cruising rather than outright agility.
Production & Legacy
Built through 1977, the 130 replaced the older Fiat 2300 and remained Fiat’s largest passenger offering for its brief lifespan. No direct successor emerged, allowing the model to stand as a one-generation statement of the company’s engineering ambition during the 1970s.
