Fiat 1100 TV Trasformabile

Launched in the early 1950s, the Fiat 1100 TV Trasformabile brought open-top motoring to Italy’s popular 1100 line, creating a lightweight two-door spider aimed at weekend drivers and style-conscious buyers. Its low windshield, detachable side windows and spartan interior made it the Italian interpretation of a postwar roadster.
Design
At 3.82 m long, 1.47 m wide and only 1.28 m tall, the TV Trasformabile sat low and purposeful. The windscreen could fold flat and light side curtains replaced doors, keeping kerb weight low. A simple fabric top folded behind the seats, while the grille carried the distinctive "TV" (Turismo Veloce) badge that signaled a sportier tune.
Mechanical layout
Power came from a 1,089 cc four producing roughly 50 hp, fed by a single Weber carburetor and driving the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox. Independent front suspension and rear leaf springs gave nimble handling suited to early Italian coastal roads.
Legacy
Though production numbers were modest and quickly overtaken by the 1100/103 successor in 1953, the Trasformabile left an imprint as one of the few open Fiats affordable to the post-war public. Today it is sought by collectors valuing its pure, pared-back 1950s design and scarcity.
