The Chrysler 200C EV is a plug-in hybrid electric concept car developed in 2009 by the former Chrysler LLC to signal the next generation of its mid-size sedan family.
Origins
Introduced in January 2009 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the 200C EV served as Chrysler's styling manifesto for the Sebring’s replacement and demonstrated the company’s revived dedication to electrified drivetrains after their 2008 bankruptcy filing.
Design & Technology
Built on an extended mid-size platform stretching 4,879 mm (192 in), the concept combined sleek four-door-coupe proportions with a lithium-ion battery capable of 40 miles of pure-electric range, after which a small petrol engine acted as a generator to recharge the pack—an arrangement called extended-range electric vehicle (EREV).
Legacy
Although the 200C EV never reached production, its aesthetic cues and power-train philosophy directly informed the 2011–2014 Chrysler 200, the production sedan that formally replaced the Sebring. Elements of the EV’s grille, lighting graphics and interior user interface were repurposed for the mass-market car, anchoring Chrysler’s styling language into the 2010s.
